A former police officer in San Antonio was arrested and charged on Tuesday after he shot and critically wounded a teenager in a Mcdonald's parking lot.

James Brennand turned himself in to police on Tuesday night and was charged with two felony counts of assault by a public servant. He could face up to 20 years in prison if found guilty. There is a lawyer for him.

Brennand's body camera shows how the officer approached the teen's car believing it to be a vehicle that had evaded him the day before.

Cantu tried to drive away after the officer opened the driver's door and ordered him out. Brennand shot five times when he was hit by the door. The teen was shot five times as he drove away.

Cantu's female passenger was not injured and he was taken to a local hospital where he is in critical condition. Brennand was charged with a second count relating to the passenger.

Cantu was fighting for his life every minute of the day as his body had suffered a lot of trauma, according to his attorney.

Powers told the Associated Press that there had been no improvement in his condition.

The charges against Cantu were dropped after the local district attorney reviewed the video.

Brennand had only been a police officer for seven months when he shot and killed another person.
