The Perseverance rover has done well during its exploration of the Red Planet. The little guy has recently run into a small hiccup while looking at the Jezero crater, according to a first person message from its official account.

I couldn't seal the sample tube after collecting my 14th rock core over the weekend. The sample is stored in a safe place, but there is still some work to be done.

In the grand scheme of things, it's a small problem, but NASA scientists are scrambling to make sure everything's okay, the nearest repair shop is a whole planet away.

Under Control

It sounds like the NASA scientists have dealt with the situation.

When your drill is 100 million kilometers away, it's hard to drill rocks. The science and engineering teams are testing solutions to make sure the sample is a success.

Rachel is the operations systems engineer for the rover.

We are working hard to get this beautiful sample sealed. There is a man on the internet.

The Long Game

Since September 2021, the rover has been collecting rock core samples from the Martian surface and storing them in tubes. The samples will be delivered back to our planet as early as 2033.

In the end, the hope is that they could uncover the secrets of the Red Planet.
