The New York Metro Weather said on Thursday that the forecast had slightly improved, which could allow for the game to be played.
Rather than risk starting the game and leaving open the possibility of a long rain delay, MLB decided to give both clubs the best chance to play a full game on Friday.
The Bronx is expected to have mostly sunny skies in the afternoon with a high of 68 degrees.
If the series is extended, the postponement could play a big part. Friday was going to be the last day of the series, with both teams heading to Cleveland.
If the series goes five games, the two teams will play for four days in a row.
