The pilot of the American Airlines flight had to make an emergency landing because everyone onboard had no idea who or what was causing the smell.

The crew on the Wednesday night flight from Miami to Barbados thought the smell was coming from a passenger's carry-on bag and panicked.

The pilot decided to return to the MIA.

All 172 passengers were quickly evacuated as firefighters investigated the plane's landing.

Sources tell us the smell came from a large bottle of nail polish that spilled in the passenger's bag at the airport. The woman is not in any trouble.

The airline reported some of the crew members were sick from the smell and went to a hospital.
