The question of when current Wear OS 2 watches would receive the update has been the subject of a lot of discussion. Fossil is about to give us what we want as the company is about to update its watch very soon.
The Wear OS 3 is expected to be released on October 17th, the same day as the Gen 6 Wellness Edition watch. The Gen 6 watches that fall under Fossil Group are eligible. Skagen Falster Gen 6 is also known as the Fossil Gen 6.
The Fossil Gen 5 is out of luck due to the fact that the update is only for the Snapdragon 4100+ smartwatch.
The stock experience of Wear OS 3 is represented by the similarity of Fossil'sUI to that of thePixel Watch. It makes sense that Fossil wouldn't go the OneUI watch route, but we will get some Fossil goodies. The app for health and fitness tracking is included.

Fossil points out that the Montblanc Summit 3 doesn't have a Google Assistant. It's thought that the software isn't ready for the Qualcomm-powered watches and that the redesign of the Google Assistant resulted in this. We reached out to the company about this omission and when we can expect the assistant to arrive on other watches, but we did not hear back in time for publication.
Fossil says that users looking for a smart assistant can take advantage of the app that it launched for its watches.
The companion app for Fossil's hybrid line of watches has been updated to support Wear OS 3. Since companies are now responsible for making their own companion apps, this was the easiest way to go.
You will need to factory reset the device if you upgrade to Wear OS 3. This won't be a new thing if you've ever swapped your phone for a watch. It won't be required, according to Fossil.
Access to some platform exclusive apps is something that comes withUpgrading to Wear OS 3. The apps and updates exclusive to Wear OS 3 are: Hopefully, this won't be the last OS upgrade current models see, since Fossil says it generally commits to at least two years of updates.
