The House select committee investigating the January Capitol riot will look at the plot to overturn former President Donald Trump's loss to President Joe Biden.

There will be a public hearing at 1 p.m. The presentation could be the last one. Less than a month before the elections, the hearing is taking place.

The panel is looking into the events of January 6, 2021, when a mob of Trump's supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol. Lawmakers were forced to flee their chambers after the rioters entered the building.

A committee aide told NBC News that Thursday's hearing will look at events before, during and after the riot, with a particular focus on Trump's state of mind and his involvement with the scheme to challenge the election results. The aide said that the nine-member panel will provide new information and testify.

The hearing will discuss the close ties between people in the Trump world and extremists, according to a member of the committee.

Lofgren said that the hearing would include more than that. We are augmenting with new material that we have discovered through our work this summer.

She said to focus on what Trump knew, what he did, and what others did.

Lofgren said that the mob was led by some extremists who plotted in advance what they were going to do.

Lofgren thinks it will be worthwhile to watch. As we got into it, I was surprised by some new material.

More than two months after the last presentation, the ninth hearing of the committee is about to start.

The committee leaders decided to delay the hearing on the eve of the event due to the major storm hitting Florida.

Less than four weeks before the election, Democrats and Republicans are vying for control of both chambers of Congress and key positions of power at the state level.

The committee must submit a final report to the president by the end of the year.
