In August 2022, American Airlines revealed that it would be introducing a new design template for its airport lounges, which would be used for all lounges in the future. Some depictions of reality were released at the time. I am impressed that American has released the first pictures of the lounges.

American Admirals Club redesign details

The design of the Admirals Club lounges will be changed in the future. As clubs are renovated, you can expect that they will all feature this updated design.

A new Admirals Club is expected to open in the coming weeks at Washington National Airport, which will be the location for the new design of the club. This design can be seen at Newark Airport, Austin Airport, and Denver Airport after that.

The lounges are described in this way.

When customers step inside, they will be welcomed by signature brand elements and references from local landscapes and landmarks that tell the story of each city and create a sense of place. Wellness will uniquely shine through selective design elements that set a tone of calm and familiarity. Sustainability is also built into the new design in intentional ways, such as branded elements made of renewable American walnut in every lounge.

What should we expect from these places? There is a new club at DCA.

My take on the new Admirals Club look

I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the lounge design of the new admirals club. I enjoy the wood, dark tones, and fireplaces, as well as the different seating options. This appears to be a huge improvement over the current design of the Admirals Club.

American’s current Admirals Club design

How well the new design will age is one of my biggest concerns. I can't help but wonder how it'll look in a couple of years as I look at the interior. I can't help but be skeptical of everything from the carpet staining to the wood chipping to the seating fabrics getting scratched and discolored.

Since there is not much that can be damaged, the admirals clubs look a bit like hospital waiting rooms.

The hard product doesn't have an amazing soft product. I would love to see an investment in that place. The lounges at Delta have bigger crowding issues with eligible guests having to wait a long time. American doesn't have that issue as frequently.

The best way to get into American Admirals Clubs is with a $450 annual fee on top of the regular membership fee. You can add the card to your account at no cost if you want to get access to up to 10 authorized users.

Bottom line

The coming weeks will see the debut of the redesign at Washington National Airport before being rolled out at other Admirals Clubs. I am very impressed by the design.

What do you think about the redesign of the american admirals club?
