Republic of Ireland women's team
The footage was filmed in the dressing room at Hampden Park as the Republic celebrated qualifying for the World Cup

A video of the Republic of Ireland women's players singing a pro-IRA chant has led to an investigation by Uefa.

Information on the case will be made available in due course according to the European football's governing body.

The team apologized from the bottom of their hearts, according to Vera Pauw.

They qualified for the World Cup for the first time after a 1-0 win at home.

The footage showed team members chanting the pro-IRA slogan in the stadium's dressing room after the team scored a goal and earned a place in the finals.

Republic of Ireland women: Manager Vera Pauw 'deeply sorry' for offensive chants

The release of the footage on social media by one of the squad was not the core issue according to Pauw.

I would have addressed it immediately if I'd known she hadn't put it on social media.

Putting it on social media is not the most important thing.

It has happened, that's the main thing. If you are outside or in a private room, it doesn't matter.
