Russia's attempt to annex four territories in Ukraine was condemned by the UN General Assembly.

The vote was sparked by the annexation of partially-occupied territories in Ukraine. Russia was ordered by the UN General Assembly to reverse the land grab.

The UN General Assembly voted on Wednesday to condemn Russia's actions and 35 countries abstained.

Russia was the only country to vote against the resolution. The nations led by dictators joined the nation.

There was a technical difference between the abstention option and the remaining 10 countries not voting.

It was the most robust show of support from the UN General Assembly for Ukraine since the war began, as well as a stronger response than many Western officials had anticipated. In the months since Russia invaded, the body has voted on four resolutions, including a demand for a Russian cease-fire and a measure to suspend Russia from the UN.

Bangladesh, Morocco, and Iraq joined the majority on Wednesday in voting "yes" on the previous resolutions. Saudi Arabia and the U.A.D. were among the surprises.

According to the Associated Press, Sergiy Kyslytsya, Ukraine's ambassador to the UN, called the vote a "historic moment." Olof Skoog, the European Union ambassador, said the vote sends a message to Russia that they are isolated.

The UN General Assembly voted on Monday to veto Russia's attempt to conduct the annexation vote via secret ballot. The initial gathering in which Ukraine's delegate was met with applause and Russia's ambassador was silent foretold the end.

The victory of Thursday's resolution was celebrated by Western nations as a renewed sign of support for Ukraine.

Legally, the General Assembly's resolutions are not binding.
