Let’s talk tech

Polestar is positioning the Polestar 3 as its most advanced EV to date, which isn't that much of a stretch considering the company has only released two other vehicles. The ADAS will be powered by the SUV running on the Drive computing platform.

Most modern cars have adaptive cruise control, blindspot detection, lane centering, and other features. The Pilot Pack includes an additional control unit, three cameras, four sensors, and a cleaning system for the front and rear view cameras.

The SUV will be powered by Drive.

The laser-powered lidar sensor from Luminar will help set the stage for more semiautonomous features, such as hands-free highway driving. The Scalable Product Architecture (SPA2), which will arrive with the next-generation EX90 SUV, will include a hands-free highway driving feature.

Volvo is serious about maintaining its reputation for safety, so the Polestar 3 includes interior radar sensors that can detect sub-millimeter movements to make sure no one leaves children or pets in a hot car. The Polestar 3 comes with warnings about leaving vulnerable passengers inside a hot car.

Polestar promises that the in-vehicle experiences will be "immersed in-vehicle experiences" Drivers need to pay attention to the road.

Zenseact and Smart Eye are two of the high tech partners Polestar is using. On top of that, the Polestar 3 will continue to operate with the nativeAndroid automotive, which includes voice-activated Google Assistant and other features.

The Polestar 3 is one of the latest vehicles to say goodbye to the button.

The Polestar 3 will have all of those features on its center screen. A nine-inch instrument cluster behind the steering wheel displays information like speed and drive mode as well as give turn-by-turn directions. Over-the-air updates will make sure the Polestar 3 is always up to date.

The Polestar 3 is the latest vehicle to say goodbye to the button. This has been a trend in the auto industry that has frustrated a lot of safety experts who like to point out that touchscreen controls are more time consuming than buttons. Car companies are famous for pinching pennies, so let's move on.

Power and range

Depending on the trim, it will gallop from zero to 60mph in 4.5 to 5.1 seconds.

The long-range version of the car was rated at 300 miles, but the performance version was rated at 270 miles by the EPA. It should be more than enough for most people.

The Polestar 3 will be more excited than the previous one.

One of China's largest battery makers, CATL, makes the 400-volt battery in the vehicle. That is a normal level of voltage for an EV, but it falls short of higher-voltage batteries, such as the Ioniq 5, which allow higher rates of charging.

The Polestar 3's battery has a nominal capacity of 112kWh and a usable capacity of 105kWh. The battery takes 11 hours to go from zero to 100 percent. The battery can be taken from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes.

Polestar is sticking to a small battery size with normal voltages and charge rates. It may be difficult to compete with other EV's that have bigger, heavier batteries. Polestar believes it can win customers with its attention to detail and dedication to an austere design.

Driving and design

The Polestar 3 will come with a dual-clutch system on the rear electric motor. The Polestar 3 will be able to switch between comfort and firm suspension dynamics once every two milliseconds, thanks to adaptive dual-chamber air suspension and active dampers.

There is an electric dual-clutch function on the rear of the car. The Polestar 1 was the company's first hybrid sports car and was discontinued. The rear electric motor has a function that allows the car to run on the front electric motor only if there is a reason to do so.

A lot of the clinical design of the Polestar 2 can be found in the Polestar 3.

A lot of the clinical design of the Polestar 2 can be found in the Polestar 3. The "Smart Zone" on the grilleless front end can be seen in the small caption. Unlike the Polestar 2, though, the company went with a single color look for the Polestar 3.

The Polestar Precept was a concept car that was supposed to set the stage for the company's commitment to technology, performance, andsustainability. Polestar claims that it will build the world's first truly zero-emissions vehicle without relying on carbon offsets, which it describes as a "cop-out."

The upholstery is made from Microtech, a textile made from recycled plastic. The Polestar 3 will contain leather and wool, but the company assures they are welfare-certified and traceable. Polestar has Swedish gold details that include valve caps, seat belts, and a laser-etched interior light strip.

Production and delivery

The vehicle is expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of that year. The Polestar 3 will start rolling off the line at Volvo in Ridgeville, South Carolina, by mid-2024. Polestar's first EV will likely be eligible for the federal tax credit.

The Polestar 3's starting price of $83,900 will put it in competition with other luxury electric vehicles like the BMW iX and the Mercedes-Benz R1S.

The Polestar has only shipped around 30,000 vehicles so far and is more of a boutique operation. Despite supply chain problems and COVID shutdowns in China, the company claims it will hit its goal of 50,000 deliveries. The company has a challenge with quality.

Polestar opened up production in the US. Polestar can use Volvo's manufacturing footprint as well as its dealer network to make and sell its cars. It does not guarantee a sales victory for the company, but it does give it a leg up over the competition.
