McDaniel doesn't see scenario where Tua plays vs. Vikings (1:25)

Tua Tagovailoa won't play against the Vikings. The time is 1:45.

Tua Tagovailoa won't play for the Dolphins against the Vikings on Sunday, but he will return to the practice field for football activities for the first time in nearly two weeks.

Thompson will make his first career start in place of Tagovailoa. It's too early to say if the Dolphins will have to elevate Sinnett for Sunday's game.

Tagovailoa was cleared by multiple independent neurologists to resume limited football activities, which will put him in the third phase of the return to participation protocol. Tagovailoa will be practicing for the first time since sustaining a concussion.

"You are relying on all medical advice and what people can do and what we've been told is he can go out and throw and do some individual work this week." It's exciting for everyone because we miss his personality. Not to mention all of his play, he is a guy that we rely on.

I don't think he's going to be active this week. I don't intend to have him play.

If Tagovailoa clears concussion protocol this week, it would be a disservice to the team if he played on Sunday.

He didn't do anything on the football field for two weeks. That would be unfair to the player. That would be unfair to the team. I don't think it's right to put him in that position.

During the Cincinnati game, Tagovailoa hit his head on the turf and was taken to the hospital, four days after he hit his head in the Bills game. During the first half of the Bills game, he was evaluated for a concussion, but returned to the game after it was determined that a previous back injury caused the stumbles.

Following Tagovailoa's quick return to the game, the NFL Players Association triggered a review of the league's concussion protocol, which led to the firing of the UNC consultant who performed his initial concussion evaluation. According to multiple sources, the UNC made a number of mistakes during the process, including not examining his back during the initial concussion exam.

Ataxia was included as a "no-go" symptom in the amended concussion protocol that was agreed on by the league and the players' union.

The Dolphins were the first team to experience the amended protocol last Sunday in a 40-17 loss to the New York Jets. A booth ATC spotter was placed in concussion protocol after he thought he saw a patient with a neurological condition. During his initial or follow-up exams, he did not show any symptoms of a concussion.

The team will resume football activities on Thursday during the practice. The Dolphins are moving forward with Thompson as their starter even if he clears concussion protocol by Sunday.

In relief of Bridgewater, the seventh-round pick completed 16 of 33 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown. The Jets' game-sealing touchdown was set up by a crucial fumbled ball.

After getting a starter's workload at practice, he's confident in the rookies ability to improve. He said that Thompson should be more comfortable having another quarterback on the sideline with him.

In a game experience for a quarterback, you get coached, there's a lot of stuff going on and you're taking in information from one, two, three voices. It could be a pat on the back if you have a peer that has seen it. It's huge for a player like that. His brother was on the sideline. Last week it was lonely.

Darrell Bevel and I are great guys, but not that great of conversations.
