If Tua Tagovailoa is cleared from concussion protocol, he will not play against the Vikings on Sunday.

As he prepares to return to the field, Tagovailoa is expected to start throwing on Wednesday. Rapoport and Pelissero said that he is heading in the right direction.

In Week 4 of the season, Tagovailoa suffered a concussion and missed one game. He showed concussion-like symptoms in a Week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills but was able to return to the game.

The National Football League decided to change its concussion protocol after the incidents.

Before being hurt, Tagovailoa completed 68.6 percent of his passes for 1,035 yards and eight touchdown against three turnovers. He looked like one of the best quarterbacks in the league when he led the Dolphins to the top of the division.

With Tagovailoa out, Teddy Bridgewater took over as Miami's starter. In last weekend's loss to the New York Jets, he entered concussion protocol and was replaced by a rookies.

Thompson will be Miami's starter if neither Tagovailoa or Bridgewater are ready.

The Dolphins are third in the division. They need a healthy Tagovailoa to make a deep run in the playoffs.
