The ride-sharing firm is scaling back its operations in Pakistan in order to improve its financial performance.

In five of the six cities where it had launched and expanded, the company's marquee app is shutting down. The service will not be available in other countries.

Careem, the company's subsidiary brand, will offer services in several cities in Pakistan. Several jobs will be impacted by the move.

It will help some drivers switch to Careem. The number of jobs that will be eliminated wasn't specified.

The company said in a post that it is difficult for the teams who have worked hard to build this business. Our priority is to minimize the impact on our employees, drivers, riders, and Hero partners who use the app during this change in Pakistan.

Local residents were surprised by the sudden decision of the ride hailing company. InDrive and Bykea have been competing against the company in the nation.

The company has slowed its investments in many markets. In India, a key overseas market for the firm, it sold its stake in the company to Zomato at an assumed loss.

Both the firms have denied reports of a possible sale of their India ride-sharing business to another firm.
