In India, the world's second largest wireless market, Apple and Google will roll out software updates to enable 5G support on their respective handsets, just days after local bureaucrats pushed the phonemakers to speed up their efforts.
Many popular phones in India aren't compatible with the local airwaves, which makes it difficult to offer 5G services in the country. These phones have hardware capabilities for 5G, but manufacturers need to work with local network carriers to release software updates to support local air space.
In December, Apple will release a software update that will enable 5G on its phones in India. The first 5G phone from Apple was the iPhone 12.
As soon as network validation and testing for quality and performance are completed, we will bring the best 5G experience to iPhone users in India. According to an Apple spokesman, 5G will be enabled via a software update in December.
The software update for the devices has not been given a specific time frame.
The devices are 5G capable. A spokesman for the company said that they are working with the Indian carriers to make it easier to use their services. The Pixel 6a and 7 series will be on sale soon.
