The reported presence of China's Fuzhou police in New York City has prompted a group of Republican House lawmakers to seek answers.

The group of 21 lawmakers sent a letter to the Secretary of State and the Attorney General to demand answers.

The letter began with "We are writing to express our grave concern over reports of the law enforcement presence of the People's Republic of China in New York City"

According to the letter, the Public Security (Police) Bureau of Fuzhou, China, has opened 30 overseas police service stations in 25 countries. The Fuzhou Police's overseas service station is located in the United States at the American Changle Association.

The Chinese government has set up at least 54 police service stations around the world as part of its United Front Work Department.

According to the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, the United Front Work Department is part of the Chinese Communist Party and is in charge of directing thousands of groups to conduct operations that involve foreign political influence, dissident movement suppression, intelligence gathering and technology transfer.

The New York Post reported that the station in Lower Manhattan is being operated by a group that has been blacklisted by the IRS.

The vintage Sonic the Hedgehog game sold for over $400,000.

The group paid more than one million dollars for the suite of offices where the Fuzhou Police Overseas Chinese Affairs is located.

The GOP lawmakers accused the Chinese police service stations of forcing Chinese fugitives abroad to return to China to face legal proceedings in order to get them to come back. China avoids scrutiny on its human rights record in relation to repatriating alleged fugitives by not using formal international cooperation mechanisms.

There should be no room for the Chinese government to exercise extraterritorial law enforcement on U.S. soil, according to the letter.
