During its Meta Connect presentation, Meta announced a number of technologies revolving around the metaverse. Toward the end of the presentation, Meta showed off a prototype of a new device that would allow you to control augmented reality with your brain and motor neurons.

The prototype shown was very brief and early, so it won't look the same when it comes out. We were able to see that the Wearable appeared to go around your wrist like a watch. Some bits of information may show up on the large square display, but it could also have been glare.

You can access your messages on the mysterious augmented reality glasses with a gentle flick of the thumb and another quick movement. A gesture brings up a zoom camera control that will allow you to take a photo of what you see in the glasses and then share it with someone.

The goal is to make these interface faster, higher bandwidth, and a lot more natural. The demo itself was pretty mind-blowing, as the company has done some earlier research on the subject.

Again, this was a very brief demo, and we only saw a glimpse of what the Wearable on the Wrist would look like.

Despite the failure of Goggles, the idea of augmented reality glasses is exciting. I am not a big fan of Meta, but seeing this technology in action is cool, and I could do without a clunky device on my wrist. There is a lot of speculation about Apple coming out with its own virtual reality headset or augmented reality glasses, and I would like to see it make it sleeker.
