House of the Dragon is one of the best shows of the year with each episode better than the last.
The award-worthy performance of Paddy Considine as King Viserys I was the main reason why this past Sunday's episode, 'The Lord Of The Tides', was no exception.
Considine stole every scene he was in in the episode. His desire to see his loved ones put aside their differences is beautiful, but ultimately sad.
The Dance of Dragons is a civil war that erupts when Alicent and the Hightowers decide to seat Aegon on the Iron Throne despite the fact that Viserys named Rhaenyra as his heir.
Viserys unexpectedly shows up in the throne room to adjudicate the succession of the thrones in the latest episode.
Vaemond petitioned the crown to name him heir to his family seat when Lord Corlys Velaryon was wounded. He thinks that the son of Rhaenyra is not the son of Laenor Velaryon.
Alicent has been holding court in her husband's place at the Red Keep. According to Rhaenyra, Corlys has chosen his grandson as his heir. Vaemond doesn't think the claim is legit. Viserys comes up and everyone is shocked. Rhaenyra tried to help him but he was too weak to move.
He is still in the throne room. Otto Hightower was taken aback as the king climbed the stairs. His crown fell from his head as he climbed.
Daemon helped his brother to the Iron Throne when he moved to him. He put the crown on his brother.
The first day of the shoot, the crown fell off of Paddy's head and Matt picked it up. We continued to film. The director and actors thought that it created a powerful moment in the relationship between the two characters.
There was a discovery at this time. Three of us got together and they said they felt it. This turned out to be the turning point in our relationship.
At one point, Daemon was heir to the Iron Throne. I don't think he really wanted it that much, but he wasn't happy with his brother over a lot of different slights
The moment helps symbolize Daemon's change of heart, because it proved to be quite a heavy moment and a turning point for a storyline that had started in the pilot.
The speech by Daemon was cut both for time and because the crown scene would have undermined its poignancy.
When you got to the dinner, it was more of a wake up call. There's too many people in the room for Daemon's speech to be an emotional one.
I don't think I would have guessed that this moment was made up. It is steeped in symbolism and has an underlying meaning. This scene was just a happy accident and speaks to the quality of the project.
On Sunday, the house of the dragon will come back. My review of the latest episode can be found here.
