Spencer Strider, who hasn't pitched in over a month because of an oblique injury, has been added to the Atlanta Braves' roster for the first game of the NLCS.
It is not yet known if he will be used as a starter or a relief. Braves manager Brian Snitker said that Strider wouldn't be able to pitch in the first game of the series because he would be throwing on the side.
"He's done a good job in both roles," d'Arnaud said. It would be great to have him out there.
He has made just 33 big league appearances, but he has become one of the team's most popular players with his 100 mph fastball and bushy mustache.
The Braves signed the right-handed pitcher to a six-year deal on Monday.
The pitcher said he feels great entering the playoffs. "I'm feeling good, and hopefully it keeps going in that direction," he said.
The Braves didn't have a starting pitcher on their NLDS roster because of Elder's injury.
In last year's World Series, Matzek had a 1.69 earned run average and got the victory in the fourth game.
Atlanta's roster didn't offer many surprises. The infielders are first baseman Matt Olson, second baseman Orlando Arcia, third baseman Austin Riley, and utility man Ehire Adrianza.
The designated hitter is Marcell Ozuna.
Max Fried is the Game 1 starter and Kyle Wright is the Game 2 starter. A.J. Minter, Raisel Iglesias, Collin McHugh, Dylan Lee, Jesse Chavez, and Jackson Stephens are part of the relief corps. Atlanta hasn't made a decision on a starter for the third game.
