For the first time in nearly two years, the new favorite to win the national championship doesn't come from the SEC.

The consensus favorite to win the college football playoff is Ohio State. The Ohio State Buckeyes are +200, followed by the Alabama Tide and the University of Georgia at + 220.

The last time a team other than Alabama or Georgia was the consensus favorite was in November 2020.

They are the only team with low odds. USC is 16-1 and Michigan is 20-1 to win the game. The state of Tennessee is at 40-1.

After opening with a win over Notre Dame, Ohio State has won five in a row against mediocre competition. The Buckeyes have averaged 54.4 points with an average margin of victory of 38.6 since being held to 21 points by Notre Dame.

Georgia and Alabama have both had close games in which they were heavily favored.

The bulldogs had to come from behind in the fourth quarter to get the win. Despite being a three-touchdown home favorite, Alabama had to hold off a late rally from Texas A&M to win 24-20.

Ohio State has looked unbeatable since the first game against Notre Dame, according to Joey Feazel, lead college football trader at Caesars Sportsbook. The move to get Ohio State to the top of the board was due to the fact that Georgia and Alabama have shown they can play.

The odds of an Ohio State-Alabama national championship game are not very high.
