Rivera on Commanders' offense: 'I think we have some pretty good pieces in place' (1:25)

Ron Rivera is the head coach of the Commanders. The time is 1:45.

Ron Rivera, the coach of the Washington Commanders, said he had no regrets about trading for the quarterback.

Rivera said the difference between his Commanders and the other teams in the division was down to the quarterback.

This is a quarterback-driven league. Teams that have been able to sustain success have been built around a specific quarterback.

Washington gave up a second-round pick in this year's draft and a second-round pick in 2023 in order to get Wentz.

Philadelphia, New York, and Dallas all had the same starting quarterback in the same year. Washington has started six quarterbacks in the last two years.

The other teams in the division have built around their quarterbacks, according to Rivera. Dallas has won four in a row and is led by Cooper Rush. Rush plays well in what the Cowboys want to do.

Jones' fifth-year option was not picked up by the Giants, who have a new coach in Brian Daboll. They were the worst team in the division entering the season and rallied to beat Green Bay on Sunday.

The Eagles went from a 6-10 record in 2020 to 9-8 last year and are now 5-5 this year. The past two years, Hurts has been the starter.

Washington has been struggling. In the season opener, he threw four touchdown passes and in the second half he threw three more.

He has 10 touchdown passes but is tied for third with six picks. Two spots ahead of Denver's Russell Wilson and three in front of Indianapolis' Matt Ryan, he ranks 24th in total QBR at 38.0.

Rivera has no regrets about his quarterback. The quarterback has done some good things. He's struggled in the past, but the way he played on Sunday shows you what he can do. He was chosen because we believe in him. We picked him because we looked at things that pointed towards him.

In Sunday's loss to Tennessee, the quarterback threw for 358 yards and two touchdown. He threw an incomplete pass on third-and- goal from the 2-yard line.

Rivera thinks they have a chance to build around a guy. There is a guy that is growing in what we are doing. Yesterday was a good indication of his potential, and we'll continue to work with it.

The offensive line has been injured. The Commanders didn't start all of their centers on time. They did not replace the guards that left.

The Commanders have a good receiving corps with Terry McLaurin and others.

Rivera said that they have some good pieces in place. It would be great to have them all on the field at the same time. We have to go out and play because we don't.
