David Tepper, the team's billionaire owner, has failed to translate his investing success to wins on the football field.
The first head coach to be fired this fall is Carolina's Matt Rhule.
Rhule was signed to a seven-year, $62 million contract by Tepper in January 2020, but he failed to lead Carolina to much on-field success despite being one of the highest paid coaches in the league.
Rhule is still owed over 40 million dollars by the organization.
Carolina acquired former first overall pick Baker Mayfield this summer with high hopes, but he has the lowest quarterback rating among qualified players this season, and his struggles likely contributed to Rhule's.
The original owner of the team, Jerry Richardson, sold the team to Tepper for a record price. The Carolinas are on pace to miss the playoffs for the fifth year in a row, despite Tepper's deep pockets and investing expertise. Despite being rumored to be in the running for the top quarterbacks available via trade and free agency, Carolina has been unable to find a franchise quarterback.
The 81st-wealthiest man in the world is Tepper. Our calculations show that the panthers are worth more than half a billion dollars.
The billionaire justified his decision to hire Rhule despite the fact that he was a little-known college coach with no football experience. I have to adore the guy because he dresses like me. They didn't give him anything and they didn't give me anything. He had to work hard to get what he wanted.
The New York Mets, owned by Point72 Asset Management founder Steve Cohen, were eliminated from the Major League Baseball playoffs on Sunday.
David Tepper made promises to Charlotte.
