BeReal encourages users to take a photo every day in order to create a daily habit. New estimates from a third-party app intelligence firm show that only a small number of the app's users are currently doing it. According to research from Sensor Tower, BeReal has seen its monthly active users jump by 2,254% since January 2022. In the third quarter of this year, 9% of its active installs opened the app every day.
Many people will install an app out of curiosity to check it out, but then abandon the app if they don't like it.
BeReal is still behind established social media giants. Users who downloaded the app and are using it are now launching the app every day. That is a long way behind TikTok andInstagram. TikTok is second in this category with 29%, but it leads with 39% of active installs. At 27%, 26%, 20% and 18%, this is followed by Facebook.

As a newer app, BeReal adoption is not at the same pace as it is on the other side of the world. With many of its new installs being from young people in the U.S., this may not give a full picture of the app's usage.
According to the report, Be Real could improve this figure as it has continued to grow its monthly active users at a steady pace. Sensor Tower didn't give an exact figure for its monthly active user estimates, only the percentage growth of 2,254%.

Estimates like this are not an exact science.
42matters, a mobile app data firm, estimated that BeReal's MAU onAndroid were only up by 633% this year. The fact that September was a big month for the app could be the reason for the discrepancy.
According to 42matters, the BeReal app has seen over 50 million installs, while Sensor Tower has seen over 53 million installs. The former thought the app was seeing 500,000 new installs a day with the US helping to drive that growth.
The firm tells us that it sees over 70 million lifetime downloads.

The U.S. has been the main source of new installs for each month, followed by the U.K. September was a big month for new installs, with over 13 million downloads, up 20% from the previous month.
BeReal is moving out offad status to become a part of some users' daily routines, but it hasn't yet established itself as an app that drives as consistent usage as its competitors. It is dealing with imitations from top social media apps.
In July, the photo sharing service began experimenting with a BeReal clone called dual camera, and in August it tested a feature similar to BeReal. The dual camera offered a variety of different locations for the selfies. The BeReal knock-off TikTok Now is only an in-app feature for the time being, and is only available in global markets outside the U.S.
So far, these competitors have not been able to cut into Be Real's growth potential.
Be Real did not comment on the estimates.
