The Lightning responded.
“Our organization takes these allegations very seriously,” the team’s statement read. “While we continue to gather more details, we have decided to suspend Ian Cole pending the results of an investigation. No members of the organization, including players, will comment further at this time.”
Cole said in a statement that he would cooperate with the investigation. Cole said that the allegations made against him were very serious. I will clear my name and demonstrate that the allegations are not true.
The ins and outs of the investigation of sexual assault and power dynamics will be spared by me. I will be watching to see if this woman can prove that Cole bragged about his horrible actions to his teammates. It would take time for the NHL and the Lightning to talk to people who have played with Cole. If her allegations are substantiated, wouldn't it be interesting to see if his former or current teammates still adhere to the oldest hockey code, which leads to almost all of the sport's rot, which is anything in the dressing room stays there and team over? Would one of them decide that the road to meaningful change means going above and beyond the code, and that protecting women in the future requires doing the right thing and corroborating this woman's story? What does this code mean to guys who don't play with Cole anymore? Do you mean to those who still do? What are their top priorities after the summer? It would be great to know.
