Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny sidelined for rest of season

Pete Carroll said Monday that the running back will miss the rest of the season with a broken fibula.

It will be necessary forPenny to have surgery.

He's going to get a lot of work for it. They call it a tib/fib incident. He broke his fibula and cracked it, but it's the high ankle strain that makes it hard. There is a surgery that they do to connect and tighten the bones.

He's going to miss the season because it's going to take a long time. It's a sad day for a kid that has come back into the spotlight of our program and for himself. It's a sad loss for him because he's been through so much. Everyone could see that he was doing well and we were excited for him. It is a clear surgery process, but it takes a long time.

He couldn't put weight on his left leg and had to go to the bench. Before he was taken to the locker room,Penny was hanging his head and being tended to by the team doctor and head athletic trainer.

After his emergence as one of the most productive running backs in the league,Penny has been injured. He led the league in rushing yards in the last five games of last season, which was more than any other player.
