Spencer Strider established himself as one of the best young pitchers in MLB this season and he is being rewarded for his efforts.

The Braves announced Monday that the young pitcher has agreed to a seven-year extension. There is a $22 million club option and $5 million buyout for the last year of the deal.

He will make $1 million in the first two years of his contract, then $4 million in the third year, and then $1 million in the final two years of his contract.

Strider played in 31 games for Atlanta this season. He went 11-5 with a 2.67 earned run and 202 strikeouts. He became the first pitcher in MLB history to allow less than 100 hits and 200 strikeouts in a season.

The Columbus, Ohio, native is the first Braves pitcher in modern times to record 200 strikeouts. Yu Darvish was the last rookies to do it. Strider broke Randy Johnson's record for the fastest player to reach 200 strikeouts.

The Braves put Strider on the injured list because of a left oblique injury. The Athletic's David O'Brien reported Sunday that the team is "optimistic" that the right-handed pitcher will be ready to return in time for the playoffs.
