Elon Musk speaks with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang at the Zhongnanhai leadership compound on January 9, 2018 in Beijing, China.

The Chinese government appreciated Musk's ideas about Taiwan in a new interview with the Financial Times. It hasn't happened since 1949 that Taiwan has been controlled by China.

A special administrative zone for Taiwan is probably not going to please everyone. It is possible that they could have an arrangement that is less strict than Hong Kong.

The world saw what it means when the Chinese government comes to throw its weight around, so Musk said that any arrangement should be more laissez faire than Hong Kong. Once upon a time, Hong Kong used to have a thriving movie scene, as just one example. The government of China has decided what movies can be seen in Hong Kong.

The Chinese ambassador to the U.S. celebrated Musk's idea of a special zone.

I want to thankelonmusk for his call for peace across the Taiwan Strait and for his idea about establishing a special administrative zone for Taiwan. The ambassador said Peaceful reunification and One Country, Two Systems are the best approaches to realizing national reunification.

Musk said over the weekend that Taiwan was part of China and should be governed by the Communist Party.

The Taiwan question is part of China's internal affairs. China has a clear stance on the Taiwan question. We remain committed to the basic principle of peaceful reunification and One Country, Two Systems and aim to work with the greatest effort to achieve peaceful reunification.

She said that they would defeat attempts to pursue the "Taiwan independence" agenda, push back interference by external forces, and safeguard their sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Beijing has not shied away from saying that it will use force to take Taiwan.

The freedoms of 23 million people in Taiwan are on a platter. Money is likely to be the reason for it. Many people have pointed out that Musk's company opened a big factory in China. While it is struggling in the U.S., it is doing well in China. Taiwan has taken notice of Musk and aren't happy with him.

Hsiao Bi-khim, Taiwan's ambassador to the U.S., said that freedom and democracy are not for sale.

Hsiao said that any proposal for Taiwan's future must be respectful of the democratic wishes of the people of Taiwan.
