According to President Zelenskyy, Russia used Shahed drones from Iran and its own missiles in Monday's bombardment.

Zelenskyy urged Ukrainians to shelter in the wake of the strikes on the capital.

The cities of Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia were hit by the wave of strikes.

Zelenskyy said that the target was Ukraine's energy network and its civilians. Many places had no power after 11 critical infrastructure facilities were damaged.

The exact number of people hurt is not known, but as of Monday morning police said that 5 were dead and 12 were wounded in the city.

Zelenskyy made the address near where some of the missiles landed.

He said that there were many missiles used. He didn't say how much the drones cost.

The General Staff said that 75 projectiles were fired but only 30 hit their targets. It didn't give any details about the use of drones.

It's not clear how those weapons were used in each area.

Images, and some unconfirmed videos from the scenes so far show blasts that seem more consistent with attacks from missiles, which can carry a lot of weight.

The Foreign Minister of Ukraine called on the country's allies to provide air and missile defense systems.

Russia has received several Shahed-series drones, also known as "suicide" or "kamikaze" drones, that have a payloads of up to 30 kilograms.

They are usually deployed in swarms to confuse air defense systems and act like flying bombs.

Russia has deployed them on the battlefield in areas where the Ukrainians have an advantage.

The head of Kyiv's military administration said on October 5 that Russia had struck infrastructure in the city of Bila Tserkva using Shahed drones. It was a rare attack beyond the front lines.

The Washington Post reported that Russia took delivery of Shahed drones and Mojaher 6 from Iran in August. The first shipment had Shahed-129 and Shahed-191 models.

The use of the Shahed-136 in Ukraine was noted by the UK'sMinistry of Defense.
