  • Russian soldiers raped and tortured a Ukrainian woman in Izium.

  • Alla and her husband were held captive for 10 days.

  • There are many reports of war crimes by Russian troops.

A Ukrainian woman named Alla said she was sexually and physically abused by the Russians during their occupation of Izium.

Alla gave The Washington Post a detailed description of what happened to her when she was imprisoned by the Russians. Alla carved her name and details about what happened to her into the wall of the shed she was held in. There is no dress. It's difficult.

She told The Post that she thought her son would be able to understand that she was dead when he looked for her.

Alla, who requested the outlet use only her first name, said she and her husband, who was also held captive and tortured, were being questioned because of the gas company they both worked for.

The site where Alla said she was held was visited by The Post. A video of the site was shared by the outlet.

She said the Russians would beat the Ukrainians.

She yelled "don't touch me!" as the Russian commander asked his troops to rape her. Alla said the Russian commander wanted oral sex but she was screaming the whole time and he couldn't get it up.

There have been reports of rape and torture committed by Russian troops in Ukraine. More evidence of war crimes has arisen as a result of successful Ukrainian counteroffensives.

After Russian troops retreated from Izium, an Associated Press investigation identified 10 sites in the city where they had tortured Ukrainian service members and civilians.

According to investigators commissioned by the UN, war crimes had been committed in Ukraine. Russian soldiers were found to have committed rape and torture, including against children, in some cases making the families of the victims watch.
