Ian Cole was suspended by the Bolts pending an investigation into allegations that he sexually abused a woman when she was a minor.

The Lightning said they are aware of the allegations against Cole and are cooperating with the NHL on an investigation.

The team took the allegations very seriously. Ian Cole has been suspended until the results of an investigation are known. Players will not comment further at this time.

Cole, in a statement released through his agent Kevin Magnuson, said he completely denies the allegations and will cooperate with the league, the team and their legal departments in the upcoming investigation

Cole took the allegations against him very seriously. I am going to clear my name and demonstrate to the NHL and the Lightning that the allegations are false.

Cole was accused of wrongdoing by an anonymous user on Friday. Cole was aware of the person's age at the time of the alleged sexual relationship, according to the person.

The post didn't say where or when the encounters took place.

When asked if the investigation would be conducted by the team, league or law enforcement, the Lightning wouldn't say anything.

Cole has 13 years of NHL experience. He signed a one-year free agent deal with the Lightning in the off-season and was expected to be in their lineup when they open the season on Tuesday at the New York Rangers.

Cole was traded to Pittsburgh after five seasons with the Blues. He has played for five different teams.
