A man with Down syndrome was terminated from his job at a Wendy's after 20 years.

The location of the fast food chain had a worker named Dennis Peek. His sister shared the news of his dismissal on Facebook. She wrote that she was sad to say that her brother Dennis had been fired from Wendy's.

She said that he was looking forward to a huge retirement party and that he did not understand being fired.

Turner wrote that he was unable to perform the duties of a normal person. I am looking into the case of a special needs employee who was terminated. The management at Wendy's in Stanley don't know how they hurt my brother.

Carolina Restaurant Group sent a statement to TODAY about Peek's firing.

The company is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. This was a very unfortunate mistake.

Turner changed the post to say that her brother was offered his job back and could start the next week. She said she was overwhelmed by the support she had received. I would like to thank you all so much.

She shared two more updates and said that her brother wouldn't be coming back to Wendy's. Turner said that he would be having a big retirement party.

She said that Wendy's would help with expenses for his special day. I need to do what's best for my brother. I will have more information on Tuesday.

Turner told WBTV that a manager from the location called her brother to let him know that he was going to be dropped off at work. She said the manager fired her brother because he couldn't do the extra work.

She said that he was excited to go to work. People come in and talk to him. He enjoys interacting with people.

She said that corporate became aware of the situation after she shared it on social media. Turner said that her brother would be back on the schedule after he was fired.

She said that it was giving Dennis a normal life. Is it right now? It isn't fair at all. There should be repercussions. It's absolutely true. Carolina Restaurant Group told TODAY that you can't treat someone that way. We value Dennis, have been in touch with his family, and we are looking forward to welcoming him back to work in the restaurant or to celebrating him in a big way should he decide to retire."

The company said they would be happy to welcome Dennis back if he ever wanted to work again.
