Pickett takes exception to Lawson's hit, scuffle ensues (0:36)

The fight broke out when Kenny Pickett took exception to the low hit by Shaq. It was 0: 36.

6:35 PM ET

During the fourth quarter of the Pittsburgh's 38-3 loss to the Buffalo Bills, quarterback Kenny Pickett tried to throw the ball towards the sideline, but he was chased down by Buffalo Bills defensive end Shaquille Thompson.

As the quarterback got rid of the ball, the defensive end dove low and tackled him to the ground. He pushed the defensive end as he picked himself up off the ground.

Left tackle Chukwuma Okorafor and the rest of the Pittsburgh's offensive linemen stepped in to break up the fight between the two men.

He went after my knee after I threw it. It's all done." It's tempers that flare. I'm going to play to the end of the game. It was all done. It's all good with me.

Bills defensive end A.J. Epenesa was flagged for unnecessary roughness and ejected after jumping in the scrum. After leaving the game, he shouted at the field as he walked to the locker room. He wouldn't discuss the hit after the game.

The quarterback's response was called appropriate by the coach.

It wasn't the first time that he made contact with the other team. Hamlin came in as Pickett was already going down into his slide, and James Daniels shoved Hamlin after the play, causing a skirmish between the two teams near the Bills' sideline.

Daniels was whistled for unnecessary roughness after the hit. Hamlin should've been called for roughing the passer, but neither of them had a problem with him.

"I had a problem that the officials didn't have a problem with, but I used the local area code," he said. I am a huge fan of ham. He's a 423-er. He plays with a lot of force. He is a good person. I had a problem with the fact that it wasn't being handled in a way that I expected.

The offense managed just three points after going 0-for-4 in the red zone, even though the quarterback threw for over 300 yards and had several completions of more than 20 yards. Chris Boswell missed two field goal attempts in the worst loss since 1989 for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

We didn't put points up. That is the most important thing. In the red zone, we need to be better. We just couldn't finish and it felt like we moved the ball. We need to fix it quickly and get back to the drawing board on Monday.
