According to a report from 9to5Google, Driving Mode is shutting down due to lack of demand. The feature, which was announced at I / O last year, is going to sunset on November 21st.

There is a separate version of Driving Mode that is not related to the Driving Mode feature in Maps. The standalone Driving Mode was released before the addition of the Assistant Driving Mode.

The only differences between the two are that you can use a voice command to launch Driving Mode or use the Driving Mode shortcut on your phone. If you want to access Driving Mode's features after it shuts down, you'll have to start navigation in Maps.

It's a pity for people who don't have a car with a digital navigation hub that supportsAndroid Auto. The driving mode service was supposed to replace the "Android auto for phone screens" app.
