Falcons coach in disbelief after Jarrett flagged for roughing the passer against Brady (0:46)

The roughing the passer call on Tom Brady was questionable. 0:47

6:10 PM ET

The referee said that the Atlanta Falcons defensive lineman threw the quarterback to the ground as part of his explanation for roughing the passer.

The Falcons were down six with 3:03 to play when they appeared to stop the Buccaneers at the goal line on their third-down sack of Brady, but they threw a flag that allowed the drive to continue.

Brady and the quarterback were brought to the ground by Jarrett.

The quarterback was thrown to the ground by the defender while he was still in the pocket. I made my decision based on that.

When asked if he was told to watch for quarterbacks taking down Brady after the injury to Tua Tagovailoa, he said, "No, not necessarily."

Brady shrugged when he was asked about the call, saying, "I don't throw flags," while Jarrett didn't speak with reporters after the game.

Arthur Smith said he didn't talk with the officials after the call, but he was caught on camera on the sideline. Smith dodged the question if he thought it was rough.

Smith wouldn't get into that. I have to worry about how to coach that.

"I think with Tom being who he is, he's going to get those calls more than not," said the right tackle.

Todd said he didn't think the call was made because of Brady.

That one was called. I watched it against Tua. I watched it in the London game. I don't know if they're cracking down on some of the things. A lot of people would have gotten that call right now.

"It looked like football to me," said Lorenzo Carter as he faced Brady and Jarrett. It resembled a football. We played aggressively.

The penalty for roughing the passer was 55 yards. There were six flags for 45 yards.

A holding call on Mike Evans nullified a third-down stop by the Falcons. He claimed to have made contact with Evans.

It's something I can't control, but they just called it in a clutch situation. I'm trying to get off the field.

With the attention on league safety, there was an understanding about how the game would be called.

The league's safety is at an all-time high. They're going to call it when the game is over.
