Before someone relayed what Jaire Alexander said in the locker room after Sunday's loss to the New York Giants, Rodgers heard it.
He wasn't fond of it.
Alexander said he wasn't worried about the defense despite its role in the second-half debacle that led to Green Bay's 27-22 loss. It's not yet.
"If we lose next week, then I'll be worried, but I'm not worried at all," Alexander said. It is a new situation for everyone. There are new circumstances. It's a big change in London.
Rodgers didn't like the message that was sent. He heard it from other people as well.
Rodgers doesn't like talking about losing next week. I believe in the power of words and their ability to bring about change. Talking about that is not winning football. There was a discussion about it in the locker room. We don't need to be talking that way.
The Packers will be a heavy favorite against the Jets, but they were also heavy favorites against the Giants. They lost as a 9-point favorite, making it the biggest upset in the NFL to date this season and the Packers' worst loss since 2008, when they lost to the Cards as a 13.5 point favorite.
The team had a good time in its first international game, but the Packers' performance ruined it. They were the last team that didn't play in the US. They led at the half thanks to an effective run game and some precise short passes.
The second half started to turn.
They tried to hit the ground. Rodgers had just 3.5 air yards in the first half and had a 75% completion rate and two touchdown passes. He averaged less than 10 air yards per attempt in the second half. He was 0-for-5 on passes that traveled at least 20 yards in the air.
They're just slightly off on deep balls, according to Randall Cobb. Rogers was asked if the Packers are built to go deep and if they need to stick with the running game.
Rodgers said that he made a good point. It's something to ponder about.
In a last-ditch attempt to tie the game, Rodgers had two passes batted down on consecutive plays. Prior to this season, he had only one batting down.
"We had a run-pass option on, and they loaded the box and went Cover 0, and we figured that was what they were going to do," LaFleur said. I had two batting passes.
The Giants quarterback completed 13 of 14 passes in the second half for 136 passing yards. In the second half, he had eight of his nine runs for 34 yards. Three of the Packers' penalties were by Douglas. Douglas said the official called because he told him he was bigger than him.
Douglas said that he told everyone his fault. I had three uncharacteristic f---ing penalties, but I had them. The whole defense was messed up by that.
It all added up to a loss for the Packers, who were left with a 3-2 record.
When you don't come ready to play, it's like that in this league. They outexecuted us in the second half. It's disappointing, but we can't let it get to us.
