Teddy Bridgewater left the game in the first quarter and was ruled out for the game against the Jets.
After taking a hit on the Dolphins' opening drive, the ATC spotter ruled him out of the game and put him into the protocol. According to a source, Bridgewater passed his concussion evaluation, but the booth ATC spotter believed that he stumbled and triggered the no-go symptoms in the protocol.
The elbow injury was reported by the Dolphins.
Left tackle Terron Armstead, who was questionable for Sunday's game because of a toe injury, has been ruled out for the remainder of the game.
The Dolphins' quarterback was hit while attempting a pass on the first play of the game. The intentional grounding in the end zone resulted in a safety. After being taken to the medical tent, he was immediately taken to the locker room for a concussion evaluation.
He was not allowed to leave the locker room. The Dolphins have only one quarterback on their active roster.
Tua Tagovailoa is in the concussion protocol after sustaining a concussion in Miami's loss to Cincinnati in Week 4. The Dolphins don't have a timetable for Tagovailoa's return, but he was not placed on injured reserve.
The emergency quarterback is a wide receiver.
The league amended its concussion protocol after a two-week joint investigation with the players' association into the application of the protocol after an incident involving Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa stumbled while trying to return to the huddle after hitting his head on the ground. One of the protocol's "no-go" symptoms is gross motor instability, which is the reason why the player was removed from the game.
Tagovailoa was taken to the locker room for a concussion evaluation, but he told the team physician and the consultant that he had a back and ankle injury, which led to him stumbling.
Tagovailoa passed his evaluation and was able to return to the game. The team physician didn't examine his back during the evaluation, but instead relied on the earlier examination conducted by other members of the medical staff. The consultant who performed Tagovailoa's initial evaluation was terminated by the union after it was found that he made several mistakes beyond following the step-by-step process of the protocol.
Ataxia will be added to the list of "no-go" symptoms as a result of the protocol amendment. The changes were put in place before the games started.
"'Ataxia' is defined as an abnormality of balance/stability, motor coordination or dysfunctional speech caused by a neurological issue," the NFL and NFL PA said in a joint statement. "If a player is diagnosed with 'ataxia' by any club or neutral physician involved in the application of the concussion protocol, he will be prevented from returning to the game, and will receive the follow-up care required by the protocol."
