In a recent interview, Michael Fanone said that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy told him that he couldn't control the fringe members of the GOP.
In an interview with CNN's Don Lemon, Fanone said that he was shocked by the California Republican's inability to reign in members of his party who were downplaying and minimizing.
After leaving a meeting with McCarthy, the former officer felt "disillusioned and depressed."
He didn't make a lot of noise. There wasn't much substance to the conversation except for the fact that I asked for some specific things, and one of them was that he would condemn members of the party that were downplaying and denying the reality of January 6. He wouldn't agree to do that.
He said that he couldn't control these fringe members of his party, which I thought was pretty shocking coming from someone who calls himself Leader McCarthy, being the leader of the House GOP.
Fanone felt a sense of "indifference" as he tried to get to the bottom of the attack that left him unconscious and tased on his neck. He had a heart attack and a brain injury.
I sat next to the mother of a police officer who was killed in the line of duty, as well as a man who chose his political future over what was best for his party.
He said that they were an annoyance to him.
Officer Sicknick, who was a member of the Capitol Police force, died from two strokes. He died of natural causes according to the medical examiner in Washington DC.
Fanone has been critical of McCarthy since last year.
The office of the GOP congressman denied that Fanone had been "hung up on" by his staff.
McCarthy was interested in speaking with Fanone, who he met with the same month.
Fanone felt dissatisfied with the experience.
Fanone told reporters at the Capitol that he asked McCarthy to condemn the Republicans who voted against the gold medal bill.
The officer requested that McCarthy reject the comments of the congressman who argued that January 6 was an insurrection.
When Fanone was asked if McCarthy had agreed to his requests, he said no.
Fanone called McCarthy a "Weasel" in a recent interview.
Ronald Reagan and Abe Lincoln have some choice words to say about the fact that they have to hang on Kevin McCarthy's wall.
McCarthy's office was contacted for comment.
