Larry Hogan said he is a "commonsense conservative" and is considering a presidential run.
The New England Council and the New Hampshire Institute of Politics co-hosted the "Politics & Eggs" event in Manchester, New Hampshire, last week and Hogan was the keynote speaker.
I didn't say I was going to be a candidate for president. Hogan said at the event that he was listening to people and trying to get a feel for the place.
Hogan is a safe Republican alternative who could help realign the Republican party after Trump's election. Hogan has said that he's hopeful that Donald Trump won't run for re- election in 2024.
Hogan said he has to finish the job as Maryland's governor before he can start thinking about his political future.
I am going to speak for myself. I'm going to do everything I can to get the country moving in the right direction. He said he didn't know what path that would take. I have a job until the 18th.
Hogan said that he will host a leadership summit in November for thought leaders from around the country to discuss the path forward and what we can do to get the country moving in a different direction.
Hogan said he wants to be in position for a presidential run but would also support a candidate he likes more.
"After I'm done being governor, I will take a look at that, but I'm not here to convince you that I'm on that path yet." I would like to be in a good position. Hogan wants to help whoever he thinks is the strongest possible candidate if it's not him. There are 10 people who would like to be the next Donald Trump, and I think there is a different lane.
