The secure messaging app is testing a Stories feature. Cybersecurity can be fun.
The app announced a new way of sharing photos, videos, and even texts in a post to the community board. Stories disappear after a day and can be shared with all of your Signal connections, a custom list of friends, or any of your Signal groups. Users that turn off the story feature lose access to other connections' temporary posts.
Stories are the same as any other message you send via signal.
The demise of single-use, feature-specific social apps in favor of one-stop-shop networking platforms is one of the reasons for the addition of Signal this week. Since its popularity in the ephemeral, "impermanent" social posting game, it has become synonymous with public and "close friend" stories. They have their own versions of this in their own circles and stories. The image of rising apps like TikTok and BeReal is slowly remaking itself in the image of the younger crowd. Signal is following in the footsteps of its users.
The independently-run messaging app is still in the early stages of testing, but initial feedback seems positive for the social media add-on. It's possible that the " Finsta" is dead.
