When asked why he didn't appeal for obstruction of the field against Matthew Wade, Buttler was diplomatic.
With the match in the balance, Wade stuck his arm out and blocked Mark Wood as the England bowler tried to take a return catch.
If England had appealed, the Australian would have been dismissed and Buttler wouldn't have taken the chance.
"I didn't know what happened because I was looking at the ball all the time," said Buttler.
The umpires asked if I wanted to appeal, but I didn't think it was a good idea to do it so early in the trip.
If it had been a World Cup match, Buttler might have taken a different stance, but England won by eight runs.
The match was Buttler's first since recovering from a calf injury and he scored 68 from 32 balls in an opening stand of 133 with Alex Hales.
Hales was preferred to Phil Salt at the top of the order and more than justified his selection by top- scoring with 84 from 51 balls.
Alex has a great record in Australia.
Alex and Phil Salt have been batting well, but we just felt that Alex's record in Australia puts him in front.
We got off to a great start and I enjoyed it.
