The recent announcement and upcoming release of a horror project based on obscure comic books was a surprise to everyone.
It is a one-off special on Disney Plus and an entry into the MCU. It has the highest audience scores of any Disney series to date. It is third in terms of critics scores.
The list is as it stands now that the movie is out.
It's above everything else on the list, including What If... The average audience score is between 80-90% for most of the projects, except for She-Hulk, which has sunk to a goofy 36%. The review bombed for a while, but not nearly this bad.
If you don't know what you're watching, here's the official description.
A group of monster hunters emerge from the shadows and gather at the Bloodstone Temple after the death of their leader. In a memorial to the leader's life, attendees are thrust into a competition for a powerful relic that will bring them face to face with a monster. The chilling special was inspired by horror films of the 1930s and 1940s and was meant to evoke a sense of dread and the macabre.
It is a good homage to a classic horror film. It is just an hour long, a single episode, unlike anything else the MCU has done to date. The kind of flexibility Disney Plus can offer is something I expect to see more of.
I am curious about what it would look like if they let Michael Giacchino direct a full series or movie instead of just scoring them.
