Lora has been living on her boat since July of last year. She shares it with her two cats.
She was told Friday morning that she needs to leave her home on the water in downtown Fort Myers and find a new place to live because the marina is unsafe.
The nearly 40 people whose boats are their primary residences were told to leave the area by officials.
"I don't have a place to stay," he said. I feel like I'm dead. The boats can stay, but we can't.
She said that tax dollars should be spent on things that maintain your surroundings. You pay your rent to people who are supposed to keep you safe. You are let down and told to leave.
Boat residents have harrowing night weathering the storm.
As the property owner, the city couldn't allow the marina to be open due to the dangers, according to a letter handed to residents and boat owners.
The marina hadn't been properly maintained nor had the city hired a dock manager according to residents.
They should have made sure that their residents were well prepared.
Anderson told The News-Press it would be the same if there was more damage.
It is the same as any other house that is deemed not to be safe or liveable. We can't allow people to live in unsafe conditions.
He said the storm was a devastating one. A lot of people have been affected and we're trying to keep the city safe.
The cost of the project is going to increase.
The letter stated that the marina lacked water, electricity, and safe conditions for navigating the waterways. In case of a fire and boats sinking, the fire department wouldn't be able to get the resources it needed.
The city didn't give a time frame for how long residents would be out of their homes. Anderson said that the Federal Emergency Management Agency would be able to help residents.
She's worried about how she'll get to work and where she'll sleep.

The marina is made up of its own people. Everyone cares for each other. Water connections were restored after they cleaned up storm debris.

I chose this marina out of many options. We look after each other. She said that she doesn't think anyone else has loved the marina as much as she has.
I feel like I'm going to lose my mind. It's abandoned.
