Those looking to travel through the Pacific Northwest can once again take advantage of a key section of the famous train route. For the first time in a long time, you can take the train from the north to the south.

Since the beginning of the Pandemic, the northernmost part of the train has been out of commission. The restoration of this 140-plus mile portion of the popular route means train enthusiasts and other travelers can finally enjoy the entire trip again.

Canada just dropped its final remaining COVID-19 entry requirements at the start of October, so if you're looking for a fall break, you can ride the rails to northwest Canada without having to take a test.

Earlier this year, the rail operator restored its service between New York City and Toronto for the first time since the outbreak of the H1N1 swine flu.

If you catch a train that runs the length of the route, you will be able to travel between Eugene, Oregon, andVancouver. A ten-plus hour journey is what you will see if you take the entire train.

You're sure to remember it. The full route starts in Eugene and ends in Seattle. During the Pandemic, the service in Seattle was terminated, but riders can still take it across the border.

The train will take you along the water and through the mountains. You will be able to see the Columbia River Gorge along the way.

Booking a trip

It could be a good excuse for a weekend away between the simpler entry process to Canada and the return of the rail service to the city.

It is possible to leave Seattle early Saturday morning and arrive at the Pacific Coast Station in time for lunch. Business class is sold out, a testament to the popularity of this route now that it has been reopened.

The total cost of the round-trip is $164. It's not out of the question that you could find cheap airfare and a quicker trip by plane, but of course, part of the appeal is the incredible sights you'll see along your journey on the northward trip.

Where to stay

The Hyatt Regency is located in the heart of downtown and is about a mile and a half from the Pacific Coast station, so it is a great place to stay if you are in the area. The price is $264 for the one night stay. You can get the stay for 9,000 World of Hyatt points, which is worth about $150.

The Metropolitan Hotel downtown is one of the better deals you can find if you want to book within the Marriott portfolio. It is possible to book it for 56,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, but it is also possible to pay cash.

Bottom line

There are a lot of great sights to see on the U.S. portion of the train, but it is more appealing to take the train to get there. With fall foliage to be seen and easier access to Canada than at any point since early 2020, it could be an excuse to visit British Columbia.
