MLS suspended Atlanta United player Santiago Sosa for three games and fined him after he used an anti-gay slur against the New England Revolution.
Sosa must attend LGBTQ+ Allyship training as well.
Atlanta United is aware of Santiago Sosa's use of offensive language. The club does not tolerate disrespectful language towards anyone.
Santiago apologized to the New England Revolution player. The Major League Soccer's Players Association has been requested to provide more resources.
Atlanta United's values of inclusion, respect and unity will be reinforced during this time.
Sosa will miss Atlanta's final game of the MLS regular season at home to New York City FC on Sunday, as well as its first two games of the next season. The United have been eliminated from the playoffs.
Atlanta joined the Argentina youth international before the start of the season. He has played in 47 MLS games for the MLS Cup winners.
