James Tavernier's penalty doubled Rangers lead before the break

Antonio Colak scored a double for the third league match in a row as Rangers beat St Mirren.

James Tavernier scored the second goal of the game after Colak won the penalty.

Colak made sure of the three points and Fashion Sakala added a fourth after Mark O'hara was denied a reply by Allan McGregor.

The gap at the top is not going to change despite Rangers' win and St. Mirren dropping seven points behind.

After being left out of the starting line-up, Colak wasted no time in reminding people of his prowess.

The ball came back off the right-hand post after Borna Barisic's shot was low, hard and beyond.

Colak was the one who drew the foul for the spot-kick as he got himself in a bad spot. The score was 2-0 when Tavernier went down the middle.

Marcus Fraser had a great chance to level when Scott Tanser crossed for him, but he headed straight at the goalkeeper.

Rabbi Matondo's strike from the left was close to the goal early in the second half.

As Rangers tried to force a third in a crowded area, Alex Gogic's hand in the box went unpunished.

When O'Hara was left alone to meet Baccus' cross, he was presented with the chance to score, but his shot was smothered by the goalkeeper.

The visitors found themselves three down as Sakala's piercing pass unleashed Colak and the forward turned inside Gogic to finish well with the outside of his boot.

Main hit a shot off the bar in the closing stages of the game, which was all about the Saints getting something out of it.

Leon King's pass helped on by James Tavernier for Alfredo Morelos to pick out Sakala and he scored his first goal of the season.

Busy day for goalkeepers - analysis

If they want to continue their good start to the season, they will need big performances from the Northern Ireland international.

The shots that found the net could have been prevented if the keeper had done his job.

The Rangers goalkeeper was called into action early on after Alex Greive's shot accidentally hit the turf.

The second-half block to deny O'Hara was crucial, with St Mirren not given the encouragement to push for more.

The result was the same as it has been at home in the league so far this season - three points.

What they said

The three points is the most pleasing thing. Today's intentions were very positive from the beginning to the end.

Antonio Colak's got off to a good start. His ability to be proactive was shown. It's important to make sure your front line is safe. Sakala had a great game.

Stephen Robinson said that they got punished for some defensive mistakes. When they arrived, we didn't take our chances. We had two one-v-one opportunities. Alex Greive and Mark O'hara made two great saves.

The penalty makes a big difference in the game. The man says he got the ball first and that Antonio Colak ran into him. This result won't affect what we do.

What's next?

Rangers will play a European match on Wednesday while Motherwell will play in the English top flight next Sunday. Next Saturday, they are at home against Kilmarnock.
