The updated concussion protocols will be in place by Sunday's Week 5 game.

Both sides focused on Ataxia - any abnormality of balance/stability, coordination or speech, considered only a neurological event.

The head and neck injuries that sent Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to the hospital last week caused changes to the league's concussion protocol to be imminent, according to the commissioner.

The Associated Press reported that the commissioner spoke at a fan forum in London ahead of the Green Bay Packers-New York Giants game.

The reality is that the protocols are very important. We don't follow anything else. There is no indication that that didn't happen. An ongoing investigation is going on. We are focused on doing that. We are prepared to make a change or two in the protocols because we think we can make it even safer.

Changes to the NFL's concussion protocol have been agreed to by the league's players association.

The concussion protocols will be changed to protect players from returning to play in the event of a similar incident. We want these changes to go into effect before this weekend's games to make sure the players are protected, and we hope the NFL accepts the change before then.

According to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the league and the union agreed to change the concussion protocol. The players who exhibit gross motor instability were ruled out of the changes.

Over the last week, teams seem to have been more careful about head injuries.

The Indianapolis Colts running back was ruled out of the game against the Broncos due to gross motor instability. After taking a hard hit on Indy's opening drive, he was unable to stand up and had to be held up by his teammates.

Questions about the NFL's concussion protocol were sparked when Tagovailoa was allowed to return to a Week 3 game after struggling to stay on his feet following a hit.

The Dolphins and Tagovailoa say he passed concussion tests. The consultant who evaluated Tagovailoa during the game has been fired by the league.

The concussion evaluation of Tagovailoa is still being investigated by the league and the union. The results of the investigation will be made public once it is concluded, according to Dr. Allen Sills.

There were calls for changes to the concussion protocol when Tagovailoa was taken to the hospital with head and neck injuries after a scary hit.

The veteran signal- caller has been ruled out with a concussion.
