According to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Russell Wilson received a platelet-rich plasma injection in Los Angeles on Friday to relieve pain from his throwing shoulder.

Wilson is dealing with a strained latissimus dorsi. Baseball players don't usually get an injection to treat the injury.

According to Rapoport and Pelissero, Wilson's hope is that the injection will speed up the healing process. It's not clear if the injection will improve his situation.

Wilson had a shoulder injury in Week 4.

John Elway's retirement made it difficult for the Broncos to find a long-term solution at quarterback.

Manning's four years in Denver ended with the franchise's best spell in the post- Elway era, and the team looked to duplicate that with the acquisition of Wilson.
