  • Karly is currently looking for a job in North Carolina.

  • Her resume was printed on a cake and sent to Nike's headquarters with the help of a driver.

  • She said a former colleague told her to think outside the box.

When Karly was laid off from her corporate job, she decided to send her resume to Nike on a cake.

"I was going to buy this cake and just have it sit in a random place, but I couldn't afford it," he said. With the help of a friend, a bakery, and a dedicated driver, she was able to get her resume cake.

While looking for a job in product marketing, she came across a startup incubator within Nike that she said reminded her of her past.

She still wanted to put her name on their radar despite the fact that the company was not hiring at the moment.

If she was going to get the company's attention, she had to think outside the box, and that's what she did.

She discovered that a publicity event was happening in early September in Oregon.

I was thinking about sending a cake to the party. "That's right."

She ordered the cake and the driver to deliver it to the Nike World Headquarters.

When she saw the cake, the driver said she was stunned.

I wasn't expecting a detailed resume on a cake. Baldwin has never seen that before.

On the day of delivery through the Instacart app, Baldwin was told that she had been laid off from her job and was passionate about the job she had been hired to do. Baldwin promised that she would get the cake into the right hands.

Baldwin was tasked with navigating the Nike campus, finding her way through a party, and finding her son with her, all with a cake.

"Not only was it amazing for me to be on the campus, but to find out I was there that day when all that stuff was going on was crazy," Baldwin said.

She communicated with security to make sure the cake got to the right place. Baldwin said she was given a map and a ride to find the man, but was told he was in the building. Baldwin said that security offered for her to leave the cake at the front desk.

She said she wouldn't. Wanting to make sure her son's resume made it to the right person, she decided to wait at the front desk of the building with her son until the call came down.

When he arrived, he said the cake wasneat and didn't want to cut it.

She sent a picture confirmation that the mission was done.

Baldwin sent the confirmation to Karly so she could have peace of mind that her effort was received.

While holding her son in one arm and cake in the other, she waited for him to come up. I'm not sure how she did that. She was incredible. It's insane.

Baldwin told Insider that she treats every delivery the same, because she was raised that way.

Baldwin said that he was just doing what he normally does. She really wanted this job, so I put a little bit more on the resume. I knew that if I went for Nike, I would want someone to put in the effort.

They have become long distance friends despite not meeting in person. Baldwin said that she was offered to mentor her.

Baldwin said they communicate every day. She sent me a computer because I don't have a computer and I do everything on my phone.

She said she has talked with many companies since she posted about her cake on the networking site. Staying confident in the job-seeking process has kept her strong.

"I've had other people reach out saying messages of how this has inspired them, and that's a really cool thing aboutLinkedIn in a community when something gets posted and shared, is that not just the people that were part of the Nike cake that day were affected, as other
