Michigan running backs coach Mike Hart was taken off the field on a stretcher after collapsing on the sideline.

Michigan players and coaches huddled around Hart while he received medical attention after the broadcast returned from a commercial break.

Hart gave a thumbs up as the cart took him off the field.

On the Fox broadcast, Jenny Taft said that Hart was taken to a hospital for further evaluation after being carted off.

The 36-year-old Hart became Michigan's running backs coach last year after serving in that role at Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Syracuse and Indiana previously.

Hart is a beloved figure in Ann arbor due to the fact that he was a running back at the University of Michigan for four years.

In 43 games at the University of Michigan, Hart ran for a school-record 5,040 yards and scored a school-record 41 times.

In 2006 Hart finished fifth in the voting for the award after rushing for 1,562 yards and 14 touchdown.

Hart was selected in the sixth round of the 2008 draft by the Indianapolis Colts and spent three years with the team as a reserve.

After his football career ended, Hart got into coaching and was able to return to his alma mater last year.

Hart's role was expanded this season by Harbaugh, who gave him the title of run game coach.
