On October 6th, a tail strike occurred at the Lubumbashi Airport in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is home to an Ethiopia-based airline.

The Boeing 787-9 was being used for the flight from Lilongwe to LubumbaShi. The crew performed a go- around before landing. The plane hit its tail on the runway.

It's not clear if the tail strike happened during the first or second attempt. The aircraft was damaged in the incident.

There is a lot of damage to the aircraft. The plane taxied despite the damage. At the time of the occurrence, the temperature was 32 C with no gusts or precipitation.

After being on the ground in Lubumbashi for a day and a half, the plane was taken back to Bole International Airport in Ethiopia.

One day after the incident, the aircraft was ferried unpressurized to the capital city of Ethiopia. It reached a maximum of FL130 so that pressurization wouldn't be needed.

An investigation is likely to be launched as to why the plane hit its tail.
