Brian Robinson taking return to football 'one day at a time' (1:20)

Brian Robinson spoke to the media after being shot in the leg five weeks ago. The time has come.

Brian Robinson was placed on the 53-man roster by the Washington Commanders and will play against the TennesseeTitans on Sunday.

Robinson had been placed on the non- football injury list. After practicing each day, Robinson's right knee responded well and there was optimism that he would be able to play.

Washington has other effective running backs in Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic, so it's not certain how much he will play. The Commanders' primary back for the past two seasons has been Gibson who has rushed for 173 yards and averaged 3.3 yards per carry. They're the third-down back.

Washington likes Robinson as a primary between- the-tackles runner and could pair him in packages with either of the two pass-catching threats.

Ron Rivera said that Washington has a good group of backs that rotates through.

The Commanders like Robinson's potential as a steady, consistent back, despite the fact that he is more explosive.

Randy Jordan said that he has a good feel for being able to run the football. There are some things you can't teach.

The Commanders could use an offensive boost with Jahan Dotson out with a injury. Dotson leads Washington with four touchdown passes and has three red zone reception for scores. Sam Cosmi will not play. There is a chance that Thomas will be able to play on Sunday.

Robinson was shot in his leg during an attempted carjacking in the District of Columbia. Doctors told the team that there was no structural damage to his leg, which allowed him to return sooner.

Robinson said it had been a long five weeks but it was a lot of work. I did everything I could to be here today.
